John's unofficial BSOL page 1

John Charles Edward D'Alton. I have worked in the electronics industry all my life and in later years also in the computer industry. We operated our own D'Alton Sound Service for electronics and VsoftwareZ for computer software and computer club.

I am a member of Brisbane Seniors On Line (BSOL) and teach computers there. I write books using DeskTopPublishing (DTP) applications. I have written “My Life”and various travel books after our journeys. Also books about computer history and me and of ballroom history and us. All photos are Copyright to me.

BSOL at Senior's Week 2004

BSOL Brisbane was involved with the Senior's Week in September at the Convention Centre, Southbank. GreenPC arranged the stand and BSOL people manned it. It was a good position against one wall. The photo below shows Ben, Lea and myself on the stand..

I write notes for various people learning how to use a computer, PCs but not Apple computers. One I call D'Alton E-mail News (DEN) which I send infrequently, perhaps one per month or two per month. If you would like to receive these DENs then please E-mail me at my address at the bottom. I will put you on one of my Contact Lists and when you receive the E-mail your address or anyone else's address will not show, just “Undisclosed Recipient.

Our BSOL BBQ at Newfarm Park 2004

It was a hot day with only a hint of rain that we wished would happen as we need it. Of course it's really needed out west, all the way to the Indian ocean. Marie and I visited W.A. in 2002 when we saw the drought there also. I took two photographs at the BBQ which I hope people think are OK.

Another BSOL BBQ at Newfarm Park #1 2005

This one 9th of April was postponed to next Saturday due to a little rain which we all disparately need.

Another BSOL BBQ at Newfarm Park #2 2005

This was held on the 16thof April when it was fine. A good time was had by about fifty people. Unfortunately Marie and I could not attend as we were in Mittagong, NSW.

Volunteer Week at Brisbane King George Square 2005

On the 10th of April many volunteering organisations set up in two big white tents in KG Square.

I had no student so spent most of the day, 9.00am to 3.00pm there meeting other BSOL folk and the general public.

At about 1.00pm in the City Hall's main ballroom was the venue where various volunteers were presented with awards including Hazel Imison. I took a few photos during the day which have put on this page. Some BSOL people asked me for copies of my photos which will be down loadable from this page.

Our New Premises at Harris House

In September 2006 we moved into our new premises in to Harris House at 46 George Street, Brisbane. It is not as central as in An Street but bigger premises. The main draw back is that we are situated on the third level and the re is no lift which I understand is due to the building being Heritage listed. But other than that it's a great place to be and quieter. I like it. If you have not been there then do yourself a favour and visit it. We did have an Open Day on the 26th of September. Images and text about it are on the BSOL Web site.

Here are two photos I took recently at Harris House.

Hazel Imison Left BSOL

In March we gave a special luncheon to say farewell to Hazel who has been a member for many years but more importantly a very hard working person who worked in the “background” so to speak. Hazel did many of the necessary office administration jobs, membership, E-mail, keeping us supplied with tea, coffee and so on. I don't know of all that she did but God knows! Thanks Hazel from all at BSOL.

Here Hazel is chatting with our president Brian at our Christmas function in December 2007.
