Football Grounds – The Gabba - Brisbane Lions
I hope to give some brief information about football grounds in Brisbane. It's apity I had not taken photos over the decades of all the grounds at which I have seen football played. Since about 1956 when I first saw games at the Sandgate Football Club. I now have a digital camera so it's so easy to take photographs. I take a series of images and using The GIMP I make panoramic images by joining the images together.
This
ground is the well known Gabba cricket ground. Gabba is short for
Woolloongabba and is about 4km southeast of
the city. It is the Home ground of the Brisbane Lions. Some earlier
QAFL/AFLQ finals games were played here, 1996 being the last until
this year, 2005. The AFLQ decided to try the Grand Finals this year
to judge if the AFLQ could return here. I attended
the Grand Finals and took this photo, actually
five that shows a small section of the stadium
on the northern side was used. The eastern and western goalposts can
be seen. There is more history to The Gabba which I may elaborate
on in the future.
