Football Grounds - Coorparoo - Brisbane Lions Practice
I hope to give some brief information about football grounds in Brisbane. It's apity I had not taken photos over the decades of all the grounds at which I have seen football played. Since about 1956 when I first saw games at the Sandgate Football Club. I now have a digital camera so it's so easy to take photographs. I take a series of images and using The GIMP I make panoramic images by joining the images together.
This
ground was the Coorparoo Roos home ground also known as Giffen
Park. The Coorparoo Senior team no longer exists in the AFLQ but does
have a team called the Coorparoo Kings in the Premier Division of the
AFLSQ. I thank Jimmy Daboinga for correcting me here. There are many
games are played on it at various times. For almost a decade the
QAFL/AFLQ finals matches were played here and drew reasonable crowds
but not like the “old days”. The Brisbane Lions use it as
a practice ground. Coorparoo is about 8km east of the city. People
are able to drive their cars around most of the ground.
I was looking south to take these photos. One of the new women goal umpires is at her post at the near goal posts. The club house and administration building can be seen at the far end as seen looking past both sides of the right hand side behind post at this end. The score board can't be seen but is left of the light tower right of the white building at the far end in about the centre.
