Football Grounds Brisbane - Bears
I hope to give some brief information about football grounds in Brisbane. It's apity I had not taken photos over the decades of all the grounds at which I have seen football played. Since about 1956 when I first saw games at the Sandgate Football Club. I now have a digital camera so it's so easy to take photographs. I take a series of images and using The GIMP I make panoramic images by joining the images together.
This ground was the Brisbane Bears home ground at Carrara on the Queensland Gold Coast. The Bears were later renamed The Lions and their present home ground is at Woolloongabba about 5km south of the city.
I took this photo at a game in 1987. I had to doctor/edit the photo quite a bit so it's not a good image. I was facing about north with the western goal posts at the left. The far goalposts are not visible at the other end. On the right near the camera is a person standing wearing a blue shirt. Just to the left of that person on the far boundary is a white wall which if I remember was the backing for a little stage where the Bears Cheer Squad girls did their dances and cheered. The main scoreboard is at the far right edge of the photo. The small club house was somewhere near or under the grandstands past the goal posts at this end. The Brisbane Bears play in the AFL national league.
