I have selected a few applications and utilities that I hope may be of use to people.
E-mail application JBMAIL
This little application is called JBMAIL which can be used to check E-mail from any PC computer that is connected to the Internet and has a 9cm floppy drive that can be used. One can be anywhere in the world and can use JBMAIL which is small, about 150kb so it fits on a 9cm floppy disk or any removable medium as long as the computer can read it. It is a free application. It can be run from the floppy then one types in the details that are normally used to connect to the ISP;
ISP name, person user name and password. Click Connect and the E-mail header information shows. The from address, to address, Subject size. One can delete E-mails directly from the ISP before they are downloaded to the computer. Any E-mail can be read but it is only in text format so no pictures will show. When finished one has the choice to leave the E-mails just deleted on the ISP or delete them off the ISP.
So simple. This is how Pegasus Mail works. The user can choose which E-mails to delete off the ISP without downloading them. It beats any viruses this way.
This little application, JBMAIL can be downloaded from my Web Site by clicking this link . Once it is downloaded just RUN the JBMAIL.EXE and it will be put four little files into a directory/folder. It does not edit the Registry. To run JBMAIL click on the JBMAIL application icon. That is all there is to it. I use it at BSOL to check my E-Mail running it from a 9cm floppy. Nothing to install.
PopCorn
PopCorn is similar to JBMail in that it is Freeware for one account, fits on a 9cm floppy but one can Compose an E-mail and Send it. Read the Readme text file. Go to the PopCorn Web site or download it from my Software page. which is a ZIP file about 138kb so is small.
Irfanview Plugins which allows more files to see and hear
Irfanview is the great free application to organise image, sound and text files. It can also do simple editing of image files. Irfanview comes with about three plugins but there are about twenty more at present. Download the plugins which is a ZIPped file irfanviewsomeplugins.zip into the Irfanview Plugins directory (folder). That's all there is to it. Next time you click on a directory the files that would not work before will work, if the Plugin needed was one that was installed on the computer.
Genealogy to HTML
A little utility called GED2WWW uses a GEDCOM file that is made in most if not all genealogy applications and make/builds HTM or HTML pages. The files can be saved on a CD or placed on a Web site for all to see. I have to check with the author before linking to it here. Watch this space!
PDF995 allows making PDF files from most applications
Up
until recently one needed to spend hundreds of dollars purchasing
Adobe Acrobat Distiller to make PDF files. This little utility which
is free allows one to make a document with Wordperfect, Wordpad,
Greenstreet Publisher, M$ Word and others to make PDF files. The
conversion is not always 100% but for gratis it's great. Click the
PDF995 button which links to Software995 site.
I hope to put more Software downloads to be accessed from this page at a later date.
