More than one similar Application can be installed

More than one same type application installed at the same time.

I sometimes overlook some simple things about computing. Things that are considered normal or most people know situations.

A question was asked:-

Can I have more than one E-mail programme/application installed on my computer?

Answer YES.

As some of you know I don't use Micro$oft software if I can help it. I have used different E-mail browsers, the application (app) that allows one to use the Internet, in this case the E-mail section of it.

I have used an E-mail application which is absolutely free which is written by a New Zealander and has no connection with M$. His E-mail app is called Pegasus Mail.

He started writing it about 1990 so has been around quite awhile.

Anyway, I have more than one version of Pegasus Mail installed on one of my computers. I have tested three other E-mailing apps, The Bat, Kaufman and TransMedia. At one stage I had the whole four installed and could use which ever one I desired.

The point is, YES more than one application of a type, in this case E-mail apps can be installed on one computer at a time.

Of course I would not suggest that people do this as there just may be some conflict that a newbie/beginner could not overcome. The other reason is that it can be confusing to do. Which E-mail app has what messages on it. Addresses of people, signatures, notes and distribution lists and so on, a host of different items.

Important hint.

If *you* do install another E-mail app, make sure that you do not remove messages from your ISP server after downloading them.

There should be somewhere in the apps setup or preferences which allows the NON deletion of messages after down loading.

This means that those messages that you have downloaded into ABC app will still be available to download and read in the XYZ app.

Comprendo?

When you have tested and decide that the later version of the same E-mail app or another different E-mail app suits you better then of course you can un-install or delete the application not required.

This can apply to most applications.

Of course there are occasions when one app may make certain changes to the computers setup which could/may make the other app not function properly or not at all. I must admit in a decade of my time using PCs (IBM compatibles) and Windows OS this has only occurred three or four times.

Just beware, if you are not sure ask someone who may or should know.
